Gatewood hadn't done well against Briarwood Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Gators enjoyed a cozy 54-38 win over the Buccaneers. This was payback for the Gators, who suffered a 55-31 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gatewood was led to victory by Lauren Paxson and Lily Huskins. Paxson posted 18 points, while Huskins put up 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Roberts, who had ten points.

Briarwood Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hensley Vann, who earned eight points in addition to six boards and three steals. Emily Kay was another key player, putting up three points.

Gatewood has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Gatewood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-19 victory against Thomas Jefferson Academy on the 20th. As for Briarwood Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-42 defeat against John Milledge Academy on the 20th.
