Recap: Davie War Eagles vs. R.J. Reynolds Demons

The Davie War Eagles put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 65-56 win over R.J. Reynolds. Given Davie's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while R.J. Reynolds is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Davie to victory were Jackson Powers and Bryson Mickey. Powers dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Mickey shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Powers has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Coleman Lawhon, who scored ten points along with three steals.

Despite the loss, R.J. Reynolds still got an impressive performance from Andreas Kazakos, who scored 19 points. Antoine Jones Jr. was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Davie's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-0. As for R.J. Reynolds, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davie will take on West Forsyth at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. West Forsyth knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Davie likes a good challenge. As for R.J. Reynolds, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mount Tabor at 8:00 p.m. Mount Tabor will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
