Softball Recap: Santa Fe Trail Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

Santa Fe Trail proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Rock Creek Mustangs 4-3. For the Chargers, this counts as revenge for the 10-8 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2015.

Gretchen Huizenga made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Huizenga was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Neidhardt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Addalyn Sleichter, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Santa Fe Trail pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Creek, they moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Santa Fe Trail beat the Mustangs by a score of 5-4 later that day.
