Football Game Preview: Oceanside Pirates vs. Mount Miguel Matadors + How To Watch

The Oceanside Pirates will face off against the Mount Miguel Matadors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Oceanside is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Holtville as they made off with a 35-14 win. The victory was nothing new for the Pirates as they're now sitting on five straight.

Oceanside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Neke Letuli, who rushed for 115 yards and one TD on only 13 carries. Letuli has become a key player for the Pirates: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Barquinero, who threw for 127 yards and three touchdowns on perfect 8-for-8 passing.

Meanwhile, Mount Miguel humbled El Capitan with a 42-10 victory. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Oceanside better keep an eye on Jeremiah Loper. He was instrumental in Mount Miguel's win, throwing for 276 yards and three TDs on only 12 passes, while also rushing for 50 yards and one score. What's more, Loper racked up 149.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August of 2024.

Mount Miguel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tmarrion Williams and Khalonie Jordan.

Oceanside's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Mount Miguel, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.

Oceanside won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in September, slipping by Mount Miguel 26-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
