Basketball Game Preview: San Leandro Pirates vs. Fremont Tigers

The San Leandro Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Fremont Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Leandro will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

San Leandro saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a hard 63-49 fall against Pitman. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 867th, while the Pride are ranked 120th).

Meanwhile, Fremont unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They were dealt an 80-51 loss at the hands of St. Joseph. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tigers have suffered since December 28, 2023.

San Leandro will have to keep a close watch on Roy Bishop Jr and Deyonte Spears, a pair of players who had a big impact on Fremont's prior game. Bishop Jr posted 18 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, while Spears went 8 for 13 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. Bishop Jr has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last seven times he's played.

San Leandro's record is now 0-8. As for Fremont, their record is now 5-4.

San Leandro came up short against Fremont in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 51-47. Can San Leandro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
