Basketball Recap: Christian Academy Falls to Green Sea Floyds in First Game of Season

Christian Academy had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a blow against the Green Sea Floyds Trojans on Friday, falling 44-16. The Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Vanessa Lopes, who dropped a double-double with 12 rebounds and 15 steals. Lopes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last nine games she's played dating back to last season. Savannah Wiederman was another key player, putting up five points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Green Sea Floyds' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shantavia Hilliard, who posted ten points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Janyrah McClleod, who earned eight points and four steals.

Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 28-17 victory against Conway Christian on the 24th. As for Green Sea Floyds, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Loris at 6:00 p.m. on December 3.
