Two dominant backs in Britton Walston and Cyle Kisner are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Resurrection Christian Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Wellington Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Resurrection Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Denver West get on the board and left with a 49-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Jaxson Pszanka produced another solid performance picking up 63 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while also rushing for 36 yards and one touchdown. He didn't just play on offense: he also made four total tackles and defended one pass. Jackson Lucas was another key player, throwing for 111 yards and two TDs while completing 88.9% of his passes.
Resurrection Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Louie Owen, Walston, and Jesse Owen picked up one apiece. Louie got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Wellington against Alamosa on Saturday as the team secured a 48-0 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Mean Moose are ranked 100th).
Wellington's win came from a few key players Resurrection Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brayton Meglen, who rushed for 143 yards and one score on only six carries. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 80 yards. Tanner Gray was in the mix too, providing Wellington with three touchdowns.
Wellington's run defense was locked in: Alamosa could only muster two yards per carry. While two picked up at least four total tackles, Meglen stood above the rest. He rushed for 143 yards and one TD on only six carries. Wellington didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.3.
Resurrection Christian's record now sits at 7-3. As for Wellington, their record is now 10-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Resurrection Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wellington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 283.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Resurrection Christian came up short against Wellington in their previous meeting back in October, falling 21-16. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
