Basketball Recap: Havelock Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Havelock unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the New Bern Bears and fell 76-42. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.

Despite the loss, Havelock still got an impressive performance from Rafael Abdul-Ali, who went 8-for-15 to rack up 20 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Prichard, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards.

The victory (which was New Bern's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Looking ahead, Havelock will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Southwest Onslow at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Bern, they will face off against Pamlico County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
