Softball Game Preview: St. Maries Lumberjacks vs. Timberlake Tigers

St. Maries is 1-9 against Timberlake since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Lumberjacks will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. St. Maries has given up an average of 13 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

St. Maries couldn't beat Grangeville on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Lumberjacks lost 16-6 to the Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Lumberjacks have lost by exactly ten runs.

Brooklyn Scheffelmaier made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Letty Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Timberlake didn't have quite enough to beat Orofino on Monday and fell 3-2.

BrieLynn Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Timberlake saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nova Gonzales, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

St. Maries' loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Timberlake, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
