Football Preview: Pebble Hills Spartans vs. Montwood Rams
Pebble Hills has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will head out to square off against the Montwood Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pebble Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 42.2 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Pebble Hills took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 56-16 win over Coronado.
It was another big night for Zereian Quarles, who rushed for 274 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards.
Another reason for the win was Pebble Hills' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Larry Kapono Ramirez was especially locked on to Coronado's QB and sacked him three times. Kapono Ramirez is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Another thorn in Coronado's side was Dorian Jaramillo, who forced a fumble and made 14 total tackles.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pebble Hills was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 349 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montwood). They snuck past Franklin with a 46-42 victory on Friday. The win almost wasn't to be: the Rams were down 21-6 in the third quarter.
Damian Briano was his usual excellent self, throwing for 345 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Aiden Banuelos did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 51 receiving yards.
Pebble Hills' record now sits at 2-3. As for Montwood, the victory snapped their losing streak at six games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-4 record.
Pebble Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Montwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, sneaking past 16-14. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Montwood's Michael Southern, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 197 yards and a touchdown.
