Basketball Recap: River Ridge Takes a Loss

River Ridge lost against Sunlake back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The River Ridge Royal Knights fell 75-65 to the Sunlake Seahawks. While losing is never fun, the Royal Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Seahawks are ranked 179th).

Loss or not, River Ridge got some senior leadership from Jacob Yeager and Tommy DeLoreto. Yeager went 9 of 16 on his way to 23 points, while DeLoreto went 6 for 9 en route to 12 points and eight rebounds. Yeager's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Golden, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, River Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

River Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Sunlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

River Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 83-73 loss against Cypress Creek on the 18th. As for Sunlake, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-17 victory against Angeline Academy of Innovation on the 17th.
