Baseball Recap: Purvis Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Sumrall

Purvis faced Sumrall in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Purvis fell just short of Sumrall by a score of 3-2. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

JoJo Parker was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, Jacob Parker and Cannon Turner did some serious damage despite the final result: Jacob scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Turner got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Parker has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Purvis has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-5 record this season. Sumrall's record now sits at 12-6.
