The Solon Comets will face off against the Wooster Generals at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Solon will be strutting in after a victory while Wooster will be coming in after a defeat.
Solon took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Nordonia by a score of 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won four in a row.
Grace Gerhard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kennedy Prelog was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Evan Barmen was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Wooster was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They fell 6-3 to New Philadelphia.
Kayla Reid was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Averee Karazsia made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Solon's victory bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Wooster, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
Solon came out on top in a nail-biter against Wooster when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 8-7. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Generals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
