Softball Recap: Dwyer Panthers vs. Cardinal Newman Crusaders

Dwyer scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 13-6. Dwyer's win was all the more impressive since Cardinal Newman was averaging only 2.63 runs allowed on the season.

Kylie Guthrie was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Guthrie was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Dwyer let Kayla Sejnoha and Sierra Cook loose on the outfield. Sejnoha fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4, while Cook scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Dover, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

On Cardinal Newman's side, Reese Khanna made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Khanna is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Horner, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a double.

Even though they lost, Cardinal Newman was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with three doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dwyer didn't hit any.

Dwyer's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Cardinal Newman, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dwyer will square off against Jupiter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dwyer is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Cardinal Newman, they will head out on the road to challenge John Carroll Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. John Carroll Catholic will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Cardinal Newman surely won't give up without a fight.
