Basketball Recap: James Irwin Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

James Irwin had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 51-46 to the Fountain Valley Danes on Friday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 13 in a row.

James Irwin lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jonathan Kimble, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times he's played. Luke Meyer was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. James Irwin will head out to face off against Widefield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fountain Valley, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Peyton at 4:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026.
