Sherman Oaks CES is 7-1 against East Valley since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Knights will square off against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Sherman Oaks CES will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Sherman Oaks CES is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past USC Hybrid 66-0. Considering the Knights have won seven games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Daniel Truong was his usual excellent self, rushing for 148 yards and three TDs on only six carries. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending two passes. Another player making a difference was William Arias, who threw for 145 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Sherman Oaks CES didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Matthew Perez and Judah Sapong. Jacob Ashikian was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for East Valley, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They snuck past Valley Oaks CES with a 28-22 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Vanguards: they've now won five in a row.
Sherman Oaks CES better keep an eye on Giovanni Torres. He was instrumental in East Valley's win, throwing for 79 yards and two TDs, while also punching in one score on the ground. Torres' passing game has become a key predictor of the Falcons' success: the team is 3-0-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-5 otherwise. Ramon Palafox helped Torres out on the ground, picking up 54 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 51 yards on only five carries.
Sherman Oaks CES' win bumped their record up to 10-0. As for East Valley, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Truong and Palafox. Truong just won't slow down this season and has run in 17 touchdowns while averaging 156.1 rushing yards per game. Palafox has been a dominant force too and has averaged 63.5 rushing yards per game.
Sherman Oaks CES took their win against East Valley in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 38-12 score. In that game, the Knights amassed a halftime lead of 20-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
