Baseball Game Preview: Newton Eagles vs. Carterville Lions

The Newton Eagles will challenge the Carterville Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Newton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Carterville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Newton's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg on Thursday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Carterville posted their closest win since March 24th on Tuesday. They skirted past Steeleville 2-1. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Lukas Owens looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carterville secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Aidan Gusta, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Carterville's victory bumped their record up to 23-7. As for Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-6.
