Softball Game Preview: Palmview Lobos vs. Roma Gladiators

Palmview is 8-2 against Roma since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lobos will take on the Gladiators at 6:00 p.m. Palmview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Friday just wasn't the day for Palmview's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mission on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Lobos' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Abigail Cantu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roma). Everything went their way against Martin on Friday as they made off with a 21-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Gladiators in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.

Kelsey Garza was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Garcia, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Roma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Palmview has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Roma, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-17.

Palmview took their victory against Roma in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lobos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
