Jones is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Mount St. Mary is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Longhorns will welcome the Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Jones' favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
Jones is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Chisholm: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Jones blew Chisholm out of the water with a 45-12 final score. Fans of Jones have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Jones' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonquay Johnson, who rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Johnson's longest rush was for an impressive 63 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. The team also got some help courtesy of Acyn Hansen, who rushed for 184 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Jones was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 534 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Jones didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kade Templeton and Drew Thomas.
Meanwhile, Mount St. Mary didn't have quite enough to beat Millwood on Thursday and fell 24-22. The game marked the Rockets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Jones will need to focus on slowing down Roman Manella, one of several Mount St. Mary players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 329 yards and one touchdown. 124 of those passing yards were hauled in by Zach Wylie.
Jones' win bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Mount St. Mary, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.
