Basketball Recap: Carlisle County Comes Up Short

After flying high against Fulton County last Tuesday, Carlisle County came back down to earth. The Carlisle County Comets took a hard 67-50 fall against the Calloway County Lakers on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Lakers are ranked tenth).

Despite the loss, Carlisle County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Wyatt Rickard dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Rickard has been hot recently, having also posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaron Williams, who posted eight points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Carlisle County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Carlisle County's defeat dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Calloway County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.

Carlisle County will be playing in front of their home fans against Fulton City at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carlisle County is facing Fulton City at the right time seeing as Fulton City is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Calloway County, they will venture away from home to face off against Marshall County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marshall County comes in on 22 and Calloway County on five.
