Baseball Recap: Fillmore Has No Trouble Against Ojai Valley

Fillmore lost to Ojai Valley back in February of 2022, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Fillmore Flashes put the hurt on the Ojai Valley Spuds with a sharp 14-2 victory. The contest marked the Flashes' most dominant win of the season so far.

Santiago Avila made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fillmore is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise. Avila was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Javi Contreras, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Johan Reyes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Fillmore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fillmore's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Ojai Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fillmore will challenge Carpinteria at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Carpinteria's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Fillmore's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ojai Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Villanova Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ojai Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
