Baseball Recap: Rocky River Comes Up Short

Rocky River extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping them down to 8-9. They lost 8-1 to the Westlake Demons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 on Monday.

As for Westlake, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Westlake's part, Ryan Camden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. Camden has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nicholas Sherwood, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Artman, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Rocky River will face off against Lutheran West at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for Westlake, they will square off against Valley Forge at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.27 runs per game on average), something the Demons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
