Basketball Recap: Cocoa Beach Takes a Loss

After flying high against Astronaut last Tuesday, Cocoa Beach came back down to earth. The Cocoa Beach Minutemen were outmatched by the Space Coast Vipers and fell 50-22. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Minutemen this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-38 back in November of 2024.

Space Coast found their leader in freshman Zanya Smith, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points in addition to six boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Nakayla Smith, who posted six points and three steals.

Cocoa Beach has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Space Coast, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-5.

Cocoa Beach wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-33 loss against Merritt Island Christian on the 10th. As for Space Coast, they will square off against Edgewood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Phillayjah Carroll and Janae Mcfall.
