Basketball Recap: Hawthorne's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

If Hawthorne was riding high fresh off their 52-31 takedown of Wildwood two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars took a 69-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the SEED: LA Grizzlies on Monday. The loss put an end to the Cougars' undefeated start to the season.

When it comes to explaining why Hawthorne lost, don't look at Kyron Blanchette. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points. That was a full 34.5% of the Cougars' points, marking the third time in a row Blanchette has scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Hearn, who had 13 points.

SEED: LA's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Breon Hill led the charge by dropping a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. What's more, Hill also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in November of 2024. Devin Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Hawthorne fell to 2-1. As for SEED: LA, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawthorne will host Lennox Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for SEED: LA, they will welcome Southwestern Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
