Basketball Recap: Rock Academy Comes Up Short

Rock Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 52-43 to the San Ysidro Cougars.

When it comes to explaining why Rock Academy lost, don't look at James Whitley. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 21 on his way to 30 points and five rebounds. That was a full 69.8% of Rock Academy's points, marking the ninth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Jordan Miranda had an outrageously good game for San Ysidro as he put up 21 points. Logan Songvilay was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Rock Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for San Ysidro, they moved to 1-12 with that win, which also ended their 17-game losing streak.

Rock Academy and San Ysidro could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Rock Academy (ranked 1269th) will meet Southwest SD (ranked 563rd) at 6:30 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Meanwhile, San Ysidro (ranked 1265th) will meet Coronado (ranked 450th) at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
