Mt. Carmel gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They pulled ahead with a 72-71 photo finish over the University City Centurions. For the Sundevils, this counts as revenge for the 67-51 victory the Centurions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Matthew Muttoni went supernova, shooting 79% from the field en route to 24 points and eight boards. Tommy Burian was another key player, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Mt. Carmel was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University City only posted six.

Despite the loss, University City had strong showings from Jeein Kim, who went 7-for-15 on his way to 19 points, and Roman Murallo, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 18 points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Hudson, who posted eight points and 14 boards.

Mt. Carmel has already played their next game, a 93-72 defeat against Scripps Ranch on the 21st. As for University City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 86-85 win against Steele Canyon on the 22nd.
