Two dominant backs in Da'Kari Releford Jr and Jayden Fox are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans will take on the Cherry Creek Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Fountain-Fort Carson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Cherokee Trail by a score of 14-7 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Trojans were the (much) better team in the second half.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Releford Jr and Logan Posey. Releford Jr had a great game and rushed for 188 yards and one TD while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Posey did his best for the losing side, rushing for 117 yards.
Fountain-Fort Carson's defense made their presence known, laying out Bryson Peterson five times. Faleulu Leatiota was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Grandview to the tune of 52-15. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 45-6.
Cherry Creek had a senior duo take command as Brady Vodicka threw for 290 yards and four touchdowns and Maxwell Lovett picked up 90 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Cherry Creek didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jake Kim and Tate Matthews. Matthews is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Kim got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Cherry Creek's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Fountain-Fort Carson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 213.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cherry Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 203.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Fountain-Fort Carson took a serious blow against Cherry Creek in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 42-6. Thankfully for the Trojans, Carlson Tann (who rushed for 90 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
