Basketball Recap: Maconaquah Braves vs. Brownsburg Bulldogs
It was a good run, but the Maconaquah Braves unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They suffered a tough 82-57 defeat at the hands of Brownsburg. While losing is never fun, Maconaquah can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 30th).
Maconaquah lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Josiah Ball, who scored 28 points. That was a full 49.1% of Maconaquah's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. MJ Ellis was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Maconaquah struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Brownsburg pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Jordan Lomax was his usual excellent self, scoring 40 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for Brownsburg. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lomax has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Grant Porath, who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
Maconaquah's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Brownsburg, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maconaquah will take on the Panthers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Western is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Brownsburg, they and the Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Indianapolis Crispus Attucks focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
