Football Recap: Mykayla Degen Leads Valley Center's Defense on Thursday

Valley Center played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Mt. Carmel Sundevils, falling 28-7. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Valley Center didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Mykayla Degen led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. Another thorn in Mt. Carmel's side was Jocleyn Cortez, who picked up two sacks and made seven total tackles.

Valley Center is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6. As for Mt. Carmel, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Looking ahead, Valley Center will square off against Rancho Buena Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will challenge Del Norte at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Sundevils 9.9, the Nighthawks 12.3) so any points scored will be well earned.
