Football Game Preview: Johnson Jaguars vs. Judson Rockets

The Johnson Jaguars are taking a road trip to take on the Judson Rockets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Johnson will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

On Friday, Johnson needed a bit of extra time to put away East Central. They walked away with a 35-28 win over the Hornets. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Jaguars as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

A big part of Johnson's win came down to the chemistry between Jonah Montgomery and his top target Jett Hickson. Montgomery rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown while Hickson rushed for 93 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries. Those 94 rushing yards gave Montgomery a new career-high.

Johnson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 233 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

Johnson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Stylz Ogden and Gavin Vasquez. Vasquez has been hot recently, having also posted at least one defended passe the last three times he's played. Another thorn in East Central's side was Dre Giello, who made 14 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Judson). They blew past Canyon 36-8 on Friday. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Judson's record now sits at 3-5. As for Johnson, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-6.

Johnson skirted past Judson 38-36 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Rockets' Kayden Graham, who rushed for 112 yards and three TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Jaguars still be able to contain Graham? There's only one way to find out.
