The Silsbee Tigers will square off against the La Vega Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Silsbee comes in on three and La Vega on six.
Silsbee is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Sweeny 48-27. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 785th).

Silsbee's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacaleb Johnson, who rushed for 126 yards and three scores on only 12 carries. The Tigers are undefeated when Johnson posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Carter Howard helped out on the ground, rushing for 86 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Silsbee was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 418 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
Silsbee didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Julian Brown. Another thorn in Sweeny's side was Levin Powell, who made 13 total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, La Vega never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past La Grange, posting a 42-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly 42 points.
Silsbee better focus on containing Kourtney Parr and Ben Thompson as the pair were huge in La Vega's win. Parr threw for 116 yards and four TDs, while Thompson rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries. Thompson's longest rush was for an impressive 62 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. James Degrate also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.
La Vega's defense made their presence known, laying out Eli Gillum three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Craig Davis, Eddison King, and Jayce Wiley, who each picked up one sack apiece. Deadrick Stuart got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Silsbee's record is now 8-3. As for La Vega, their record now sits at 9-2.
Silsbee was dealt a bruising 49-21 loss at the hands of La Vega when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Tigers, Bryson Roland (who rushed for 280 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
