Football Recap: Laona Nick Leads St. Joseph-By-The-Sea's Defense on Saturday

With a playoff win on the line, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea rose to the challenge on Saturday. They beat the Fordham Prep Rams by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 20-6. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Laona Nick, Dunne Christopher, and Fuentes Matthew picked up one apiece. Christopher has become a key player for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one interception, but 3-4 otherwise. The Vikings got some further help from D'Orazio Dominick: he made 11 total tackles and defended two passes.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Fordham Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea and Fordham Prep will both be playing Xavier the next time they take the field. The Vikings will head out to face the Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Rams will host them at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th.
