Softball Recap: Escambia Comes Up Short

If Escambia was riding high fresh off their 18-2 takedown of Pensacola Catholic on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Gators came up short against the West Florida Jaguars on Thursday, falling 16-6. The Gators have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Ayvana Rodrigues was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Armani Westbrooks, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Escambia's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for West Florida, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-13.

Coming up, Escambia will challenge Pensacola at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season. As for West Florida, they will square off against Fort Walton Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
