Football Game Preview: El Capitan Gauchos vs. Mendota Aztecs

The El Capitan Gauchos will face off against the Mendota Aztecs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. El Capitan's defense has only allowed 6.7 points per game this season, so Mendota's offense will have their work cut out for them.

El Capitan is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Madera, posting a 52-6 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Gauchos, who have now won three matches in a row.

El Capitan's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avnoor Bains, who picked up 132 receiving yards and four touchdowns. That's the most receiving touchdowns Bains has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Simonian, who rushed for 63 yards and one score on only seven carries.

El Capitan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Molly Skinner, Madysen Dietz, Giovanna Yang, and Alexia Ruiz picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, Mendota fell victim to Torres and their airtight defense on Thursday. They came up short against the Toros, falling 26-0. The Aztecs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mendota's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for El Capitan, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
