Football Recap: Academy of Our Lady of Peace Beats Mater Dei Catholic for Their Third Straight Win

Academy of Our Lady of Peace had won two straight games and Sammy Gehler did her part to make it three on Thursday. The Pilots came out on top against the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders by a score of 19-6 thanks in part to Gehler, who threw for 211 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 74 yards on only nine carries. She is becoming a predictor of Academy of Our Lady of Peace's success: when she posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when she doesn't).

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Academy of Our Lady of Peace's defense and their three sacks. Mckenna Croom was especially locked on to Mater Dei Catholic's QB and sacked her twice.

The victory got Academy of Our Lady of Peace back to even at 6-6. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy of Our Lady of Peace will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Mira Mesa at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they will head out to take on Olympian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
