Recap: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Douglas Bulldogs
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 47-3, which was the final score in Sahuarita's's tilt against Douglas on Friday. Sahuarita has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alden Fox threw for 142 yards while completing 76.9% of his passes. Arath Ahumada was his top target, picking up 108 receiving yards.
Douglas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ivan Higuera led the charge by rushing for 86 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, while also throwing for 82 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Emiliano Berthely, who gained 135 total yards and three touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sahuarita to a paltry 200 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Douglas' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Andres Hoyos and his two sacks.
Sahuarita's defeat was their fourth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.3 points per game. As for Douglas, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-4.
Sahuarita does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Douglas also has no future games currently scheduled.
