Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cherokee). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Davenport Bulldogs 64-28. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-22.
Cherokee's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trig Ream, who rushed for 227 yards and three TDs on only nine carries. Ream's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 108 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Dawson Schanbacher, who rushed for 138 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cherokee was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 514 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 161 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Davenport lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brody Robinson, who picked up 67 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also rushed for 98 yards and one TD. Ivan Morris also helped out with an impressive 93 receiving yards.
Cherokee pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.3 points over those games. As for Davenport, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Coming up, Cherokee will head out to challenge Covington-Douglas at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
