Basketball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Cedar Grove Saints

The Alexander Cougars will face off against the Cedar Grove Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Saturday, Alexander didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Cherokee, but they still walked away with a 59-54 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Alexander had a senior duo take command as Torian Greene went 6-for-11 to rack up 21 points and Jayden Crawford posted 13 points and six boards. Greene is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Cam Jackson was another key player, putting up four points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Cedar Grove came up short against Columbia two weeks ago and fell 75-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (56), the Saints still had to take the loss.

Alexander will need to focus on slowing down Emanuel Green, one of several Cedar Grove players who made an impact when they last played. He scored 23 points. Another player making a difference was Dontavius Stringfield, who put up 15 points.

Cedar Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. Alexander has also opened the season with a perfect 2-0 record.

Alexander came up short against Cedar Grove in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, falling 45-40. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
