Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shallowater). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 59-7 victory over the Pecos Eagles. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

Cooper Martin was his usual excellent self, throwing for 299 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (165.2). Another passer making a difference was Logan Winn, who threw for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Despite the loss, Pecos saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amare Griffin rushed for 108 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. Griffin's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards. Pecos also got a significant boost from Omar Salgado Jr, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.

Shallowater now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Pecos, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Shallowater and Bushland will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The contest will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Pecos, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 42-14 defeat against Lake View on the 23rd.
