Football Game Preview: Mentor Cardinals vs. Strongsville Mustangs

Mentor has gone a perfect 10-0 against Strongsville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cardinals will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mentor comes in on six and Strongsville on three.

Mentor's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 35-0 victory over Cleveland Heights. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won four matchups by 30 points or more so far this season.

Jackson Farley had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 212 yards and two scores while picking up 11.2 yards per carry. Farley is crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Burns, who rushed for 52 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mentor was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 298 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in 16 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Mentor didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Brown and Jaxon Callahan.

Meanwhile, Strongsville hadn't done well against Medina recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mustangs blew past the Battling Bees, posting a 42-14 win. The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season.

Mentor's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Strongsville, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Mentor against Strongsville when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 33-0 win. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
