Basketball Recap: Ashton Beene's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wheeler over Ripley

Wheeler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost an 85-82 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ripley Tigers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (63), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ashton Beene, who shot 61% from the field to rack up 30 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Case Null, who went 9-for-13 en route to 24 points.

Wheeler's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Ripley, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeler will challenge Ashland at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ripley, they will face off against Mooreville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Troopers have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
