Volleyball Recap: Red Mountain Takes a Loss

If Red Mountain was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Mesa on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mountain Lions took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westwood Warriors on Wednesday. Mountain Lions fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Warriors since Wednesday.

Red Mountain started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-17, 25-20, 29-27.

Brooklyn Black paced Red Mountain's offense, picking up 14 kills. Black got some help from Rihanna Brooks and her 35 assists. Brooks also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Ella Sullivan, each putting up three.

Red Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 20-15. As for Westwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-15 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Mountain will host Dobson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westwood, they will be playing at home against Highland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
