Baseball Recap: Sheffield Takes a Loss

Sheffield extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-7. They lost 17-2 to the Overton Wolverines. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolverines this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-2 back in March.

Karlos Payton made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and earned one run and three stolen bases.

As for Overton, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games.

On Overton's side, Jercorion Wesley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wesley was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Kingston Oliver was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Marquel Brooks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

Coming up, Sheffield will face off against Freedom Prep Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Overton, they will square off against Middle College at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
