Football Game Preview: Laughlin Cougars vs. Spring Mountain Eagles

Laughlin is 0-3 against Spring Mountain since September of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will square off against the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. Laughlin will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Laughlin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Beatty, who was ranked 14th at the time (Laughlin was ranked 11th). The Cougars came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 42-30 on Friday. The Cougars' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Among those leading the charge was Anthony Celi-Brookins, who threw for 151 yards and two TDs, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Laughlin's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-4 otherwise. Davinci Faccioli was in the mix as well, providing the Cougars with two scores.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Laughlin's defense and their ten sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Darius Buckley and Faccioli, who racked up seven sacks between them. Laughlin received some extra help from Faccioli, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Spring Mountain's offense. They were dealt a 44-0 defeat at the hands of Pahranagat Valley last Friday. It was the first time this season that the Eagles let down their fans at home.

Laughlin's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Spring Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.

Laughlin was dealt a bruising 60-14 defeat at the hands of Spring Mountain in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
