Football Game Preview: Wellington Eagles vs. Valley Vikings

The Wellington Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Valley Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wellington has eight straight wins, Valley has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Wellington beat Resurrection Christian 21-16. Those 21 points were actually the fewest the Eagles have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Wellington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tanner Gray, who rushed for 78 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 76 yards and one TD. An impressive showing, but Gray really ramped things up playing D: he picked up four sacks and made six total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Gray was just one part of a punishing run game: Wellington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 246 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Valley's offense. They fell just short of Eaton by a score of 2-0 on Friday.

Wellington's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything came up roses for Wellington against Valley when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 64-36 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Vikings' Carson Adolf, who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 70 yards and one TD.
