Basketball Recap: Dixie Victorious

Dixie had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-59 victory over the Provo Bulldogs on Thursday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Flyers also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2021.

Collin Simmons was nothing short of spectacular: he shot 63% from the field to rack up 28 points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Jackson Winters, who posted six points.

Dixie was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They racked up six more assists than Provo's also-impressive total of ten.

When it comes to explaining why Provo lost, don't look at Makai Allen. Despite the final result, he went 12-for-25 en route to 29 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Allen's big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Callen Tollestrup was another key player, putting up 17 points and five boards.

Provo's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Dixie didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-56 win against Bountiful on the 21st. As for Provo, they have also already played their next matchup, a 76-63 loss against Pine View on the 21st.
