Basketball Recap: Santa Monica Skates Past Hawthorne with Ease

Santa Monica won the last time they faced Hawthorne and things went their way on Monday too. The Santa Monica Vikings simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Hawthorne Cougars 78-35. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Cougars are ranked 599th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jakobi Smith, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Kordae Edwards, who had seven points.

Santa Monica's victory bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Hawthorne, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Santa Monica has already played their next match (against Beverly Hills), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hawthorne does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
