Softball Game Preview: Sonoma Valley Dragons vs. Maria Carrillo Pumas

The Sonoma Valley Dragons will face off against the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Last Thursday, Sonoma Valley came up short against Montgomery and fell 11-7. The Dragons have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Riley Rhodd was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Rhodd was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Rhodd wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Delilah Olivier, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Maria Carrillo had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 9-4 win over St. Helena on Friday.

Paige Richards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Kylie Crabb was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Alivia Vetter was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Sonoma Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Maria Carrillo in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, winning 7-3. Will Sonoma Valley repeat their success, or does Maria Carrillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
