Football Preview: C.A. Johnson Hornets vs. Calhoun County Saints
The C.A. Johnson Hornets will square off against the Calhoun County Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
C.A. Johnson took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 30-20 win over Lee Central.
C.A. Johnson found their leader in sophomore Johnathon Jenkins, who picked up three sacks, forced one fumble, and made 17 total tackles (5.0 for loss). Stacey Isaac also passed for three passing touchdowns, which is notable because the Hornets are 2-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 3-4 otherwise. On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to C.A. Johnson's defense and their five sacks. Jenkins was especially locked on to Lee Central's QB and sacked him three times. With that strong performance, Jenkins is now averaging an impressive 5.1 total tackles per game. Elijah Harper was another major factor on D, making 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun County). They breezed past Wagener-Salley to the tune of 35-0 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Saints as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-8. As for C.A. Johnson, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
C.A. Johnson might still be hurting after the 36-13 defeat they got from Calhoun County when the teams last played back in October of 2019. Thankfully for the Hornets, Devin Bull (who rushed for 213 yards and one TD while picking up 12.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
