Football Game Preview: Bastrop Bears vs. Randle Lions + How To Watch

The Bastrop Bears will challenge the Randle Lions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Bastrop is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past University 69-42. With the Bears ahead 35-14 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Gary Jefferson Jr. was his usual excellent self, rushing for 381 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per carry, and also picking up 47 receiving yards and one TD. Those 381 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Weston Nielsen was another key player, throwing for 218 yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bastrop was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 456 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Randle faced off against Pflugerville Connally on Friday. The Lions blew past the Cougars, posting a 59-28 win. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Cougars are ranked 576th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bastrop better focus on containing Tyler Skrabanek and Amari Louisville as the pair were huge in Randle's win. Skrabanek threw for 233 yards and three TDs while completing 82.4% of his passes, while Louisville gained 122 total yards and two touchdowns. Mason Mixon did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

One reason for the win was Randle's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Pflugerville Connally's side was Noriel Dominguez, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Bastrop's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.2 points. As for Randle, their record now sits at 12-0.
